YETKI.ORG/ AUSTRALIAN PLATE RESEARCH
A little curiosity.
A clearer reading.
Your hands-on number-plate lab. Bring a car photo, find its plate,
and see what the machine actually reads.
The image lab
BETABring the whole car into view. Automatic mode locates vehicles and possible plates, then reads only the plate regions. Check the highlighted boxes. Use manual crop if a plate is missed. Vehicle detection identifies categories, not make or model.
Australian plate lab · VIC, NSW, QLD, SA, WA, TAS, ACT & NT. Include the complete registration; state names and slogans are not part of it. Personalised and letter-only readings remain available for review. These general pretrained models have not yet been benchmarked on an Australian test set.

03 What the reader sees
AWAITING AN IMAGEOne image. A few useful answers.Detected vehicles, plate regions and readings will appear here.
Research prototype: detection and OCR can miss or misread plates. Review the boxes and characters. Model scores are not measured real-world accuracy. Up to 8 vehicles and 3 plate regions are shown per image.
A GOOD EXPERIMENT STARTS HERE
Better images.
More honest results.
You don’t need a perfect image. You need to know what you’re testing. Change one thing at a time.
Uploading is an experiment, not model training.
Your image is sent only when you run a test. Automatic mode processes the full image; Manual mode sends your selected crop. Both run in memory. Refreshing clears your preview and result. Use the report to keep your own notes.
Can I upload a whole car photo?
Yes. Automatic mode locates vehicles and possible plates, then sends only the detected plate regions to OCR. Blue boxes mark vehicles; orange boxes mark plates. If detection misses, switch to Manual mode and crop the registration. The pretrained models still need an Australian evaluation set.
Why did the reading need review?
The model may see several lines, unusual characters or a low score. Tighten the crop, remove glare or try a clearer frame. A high score can still be wrong: compare every result with the actual image.
What happens to my image?
The browser previews your file locally. When you run a test, the full image in Automatic mode or selected crop in Manual mode is sent securely to yetki.org and processed in memory; the application does not save the image or recognised plate to a database. Your result remains in this tab until you replace it or refresh. Standard web-server metadata such as IP addresses may be logged. Reports are downloaded only when you request them.
